Turkish-Islamic Period (13th-15th Centuries) Unglazed Ceramics Found in Amorium Inner Wall Excavations: Cookware Finds

Unglazed ceramic finds constitute one of the most common types of finds in many archaeological excavations carried out in Anatolia.Unglazed ceramics, which are utilised to cook, heat, store, or serve various foods, are important archaeological data in terms of reflecting daily life and especially cuisine culture.Despite a limited number of studies conducted on unglazed ceramic finds, this type of find has been intensively discovered in many centres.This study aimed to introduce a group of unglazed ceramic finds in Amorium, one of these centres, and here to contribute to the studies conducted on unglazed ceramicfinds.The Amorium unglazed ceramic pot, which consists of 55 pieces in total, was discovered during excavations in the Inner Wall area in the Upper City region of the city.

Amorium unglazed ceramic pieces exhibiting two different clay structures were described as cookware finds.It is seen that the cookware finds, similar examples of which were found in many centres in Anatolia, are dated to different period intervals.Therefore, the archaeological data in the area where they were discovered were considered in the dating of Amorium cookware.Based on these data, these finds were dated to the periods of Seljuk, Beyliks, and Early Ottoman (13th-15th centuries) and are also important findings in terms of reflecting gtech brush bar daily eating habits related to the Turkish-Islamic settlement in Amorium.
